Double Digits

Another week down! I know it will be a long time in the double digits but it was still exciting to turn over the blocks.

He Likes Food

I had a pretty good week. We had lots of good food, it was my
companions birthday on Friday and a family in the ward made us a
cake. We don't have a lot of set investigators so we've been doing a
lot of finding. We've given out 8 or 9 copies of the Book of Mormon
since Wednesday, and want give out the rest of our stack by the 30th.
I got my IPad this week, so I'm super happy about it that. My
companion showed me this Mexican restaurant in our area, it was SUPPER
good. We also went to Texas road house this week too with some elders
in our zone. We both didn't have dinner appointments so we went and
grabbed some good food!!!! Hahahahaha

It rained quite a bit this week. Luckily every time we have to walk or
bike out in it, it is light rain or it clears up all together so I've
been staying pretty dry.

I don't really have a cool story from this week, other than a crazy
old lady who was begging for money outside the mall by our house
called us over and started to talk to us about how hard her life is
and how her cat has kidney failure and how she has to beg for money
and how hard that is to do, and how she has to buy this supper
expensive cat food because of the cats kidney failure and stuff, so we
tried to tell her about reading the Book of Mormon can help her, but
she doesn't read because she is scared to come across a word that she
doesn't like, like "death" or "sad" or anything like that. Every time
we brought up reading or whatever, she'd come up with a weird excuse
as to why she couldn't. So we said our testimonies, and left.

I know that God lives, and that he loves us. Even though we haven't
had a good meeting with people this week, I know that God is there and
is guiding us. I know the power of the atonement is for real. I know
that Jesus Christ is the savior, and our redeemer.

I hope everyone has a great week!
Love,
Elder Snyder

It was too funny seeing Bracken's first e-mail as I said to myself "that boy needs a haircut." He sent a second e-mail with this picture and said "I got a haircut today!" It was like he knew what I was thinking. We sure miss this kid but glad he is happy and doing well. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. Also, thank you for just asking about him. It means more than you know and helps me cope.

Love you all! Momma S.

First Companion in the Mission Field

Hey Mom and everyone!
The mission field is great! I am loving it!
My area is in the Eugene 5th ward, so I get to be trained in the Eugene area!! I'm super excited!
I have one crazy experience. Last night at 9:15, me and my companion are walking out of the church building after some training on the computer I had to do, and we see this lady smoking, sitting on the curb in the church parking lot. I said to my companion, we should talk to her. We ended up giving her a book of mormon, committing her to baptism and are working on setting up another meeting with her. It was crazy because we were trying all week to give out a book of mormon, and all of a sudden, this lady practically was begging for one.

Other than that, everything is okay. I am well fed by members, have plenty of food in the fridge at home, and have a bed to sleep on. I have a stronger testimony of the atonement, and of how inspired church and priesthood leaders are. I hope that everyone has a great week!!
Love,
Elder Snyder!!

Tears of Joy

Hi Everyone,
I just got off the phone with Sister Russell (the mission president's wife) and all is well with Bracken. I was worried about him and wondering if he made it okay and what he was up to so I was so thankful for her call! That is definitely a tender mercy right there.
When Bracken arrived he got to hang out with President and Sister Russell and she said he ate with them and ate some more. :) He then he got to meet all the Assistant's in the mission office. The Elders and Sisters there welcomed him with open arms. Bracken got to go on a lesson last night even and really enjoyed that. Sister Russell said that Bracken is an amazing young man and I should be proud of him. I told her I thought so too, but I am biased.
Bracken got set up with his new companion, Elder Sims and they will be serving right there in Eugene. Bracken's P-day will be Monday so he can read and send e-mails on that day. I thanked Sister Russell for her phone call and also for her service to all the missionaries they have in their care. They are special people and I'm grateful Bracken has wonderful people looking out for him.

Airport Day!

Today was a very special day! Not only did we get to turn over the countdown block we got to talk to Bracken on the phone! It was his last day at the MTC!! He will be traveling to Oregon today. He had to wake up at 5:30 AM this morning to prepare to go. He said there were 16 Missionaries leaving today. They took a bus, the train, then the tram over to the airport. He said it was quite a site to see all the missionaries with all their luggage. Once at the airport he found a payphone and called us. I let Elise stay home from school so we both got to talk to him. I was a ball of nerves up until he called. Waiting for that call was hard so I was relieved when his call came through. He sounded great! We got a kick out of him talking about how disgusting the food was at the MTC. He must have said that at least three times. He said the best things to eat were the chocolate milk and the ice cream (both are from BYU Creamery) and that is what saved him. He told me to tell Dad that he did not gain a single pound. :) He was pretty happy though as last night they brought in Chickfila. He did love that! He said he misses us and he sounded just as happy to talk with us as we were with him. I really did not want to hang up the phone. I hope the mission president will let me know when he gets there. I will worry until then. Being a missionary mom is hard but I know this is where Bracken is supposed to be and can hear the excitement in his voice. He sounds happy and that makes things a lot easier to handle. He did say that he really believes everyone should go on a mission. Elder Holland said that people question whether or not to go and it really should not be a question. It should just be like breathing; you just do it. He told Elise she would make a great missionary and that made her smile and she told Bracken she wants to go. Elise has had good examples of missionary work in her brothers and also from the missionaries who serve in our area. She and I actually went out on a lesson on Monday night with the Elders. Bracken was happy to hear that. Deryl could not talk as he was traveling to Montreal today, but Deryl asked me to tell Bracken that he loved him. I could tell Bracken loved hearing that and he said he loves and misses his dad too. Bracken did say that receiving e-mails and letters were his favorite and he was definitely excited so many people would do that. He loves you all!
I do not know when his P-day will be so who knows when we'll hear from him next, but this will have to hold us all over. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support!

Last time e-mailing from the MTC...next stop the Mission field!

Ice Cream after Priesthood Session of Conference. Looks like it's from BYU Creamery! Woohoo!!

Temple Trip. What a beautiful day! Glad the weather is nice for our Florida Boy!
Hey Mom and Everyone!!
It sounds like you all had a fun week!! and I really appreciate all the consideration from the people back home... it means a lot :)
my week was pretty great. I had lots of learning experiences, mainly love. If everyone in the church prayed as hard as the missionaries do to have charity to everyone they meet, I have a feeling we'd have people begging to join the church. It is hard to see people like God sees them. I pray a lot for that love and perspective for people, it is definitely something I have seen an improvement from since I got here, but I still have a lot to learn.
Conference was amazing!!! Hollands talk was so good!! and Elise, as you re-read the talks, look for the talks about missionary work. super amazing!
I am super excited to get out of here!! I report to the travel office at 6:20 am on wednesday the 13th. My flight is at 11:00 or so and I land around 12:30 ish. my preliminary travel stuff is in the residence hall, and I'm already here emailing so I won't make my companion come with me to go get it.
Oh my goodness. The weather here is so nice right now. I'm wearing shorts and a t-shirt today and it is so awesome. Spring looks different here than in Florida, mainly because things in Florida are already alive!! hahahaha
The classes are going well, and I am really soaking it all in. it's amazing the progress in these few weeks, and I know it's because God is really helping me out.
I know that Christ is our Savior, I know He lives. He has been helping me to become better and I know this is where He wants me to be. I am so thankful for all you guys and can't wait to call you on Wednesday mom!!!

Another week down! Love this countdown business!

Gross Easter Dinner!

Hi Mom and everyone!!
I had an amazing week!! It was hard, but I made it though.
Easter was pretty awesome, but as you can see the dinner was disgusting.... the sandwich was mostly water and the brownie thing was inedible... Elder Ballard came and spoke to us though, so it kinda made up for it.
I guess I should explain some of the pictures, the large group was our zone before the older group left. I would share what it looks like now, but on tuesday it will change again. the smaller group is our district, we are all super close and love each other a lot. Honestly, I lucked out with my district.
I know that TRC's are not for real, but I my companion and I got baptism commitments out of our investigators, so that was pretty awesome. My companion and I also got tears out of a PI, which is just our teacher pretending to be a less-active or an investigator, but they can get super real sometimes.
I went to the temple again, it was super fun and just a wonderful opportunity to really reflect on the love God has for us. It is so cool I can go every week that I am here at the MTC, kinda makes up for the super uncomfortable beds here... hahahaha ;)
I am getting excited to go out to the field, I want to go now, but the learning and the growing I am experiencing is amazing, and I know I have a lot to improve and practice on as I continue here at  the MTC.
Again, mom you can send this email out to anyone who wants to read it, and please let everyone know I love them and miss them!
