Burning of the Tie

At a missionaries 6 month mark they get to burn a tie. Bracken is happy to participate in this tradition!

Chinese Sisters

Bracken with Deagon that was baptized on Saturday

Chinese Sisters is the name of their district. Named after a companionship of sisters who were really  hard working and the Mission President keeps praising them. The sisters left last transfer (6 weeks ago) so they decided to name their district after them.

Bracken making us jealous of the beautiful Oregon scenery

Hey Mom,

Yeah! I get to be companions with Elder Davis! I'm super excited because I already know who he is, and became close friends with him while I was serving in Eugene.

I actually got to hear that talk! It was on while we were at our dinner appointment on Saturday. It was such a great talk. I'm excited for general conference this weekend, it is going to be so awesome!! I'm glad that President Monson will be attending, I love to hear his inspired words for us. It is going to be awesome.

The baptism went great!! I'll send a picture of us with Deagon! It was so cool! A ton of he Ward members showed up, we almost didn't have enough seats! The spirit was so strong, I know that everyone who was there could definitely feel it if they were paying attention.

The rest of the week was alright. I had to drive to Eugene and spend the day there because Elder Scott got to go to the departing temple trip. The drive was long and boring, but I made it through.

We started teaching a girl who is 16 years old. Her family is all members, but she didn't want to be baptized with them a few years ago, but she came to us and wanted to take the discussions. Hopefully she will be able to feel the spirit and want to follow Jesus Christ's example and get the companionship of the Holy Ghost in her life.

Yes! I got your package!! It was so awesome! Thank you so so so much! I loved it! It makes me happy to get stuff from home. I'm so thankful for the love and support I have. Give a special thanks to Elise for the decorations. It was so awesome!!

Let's see... This week the primary gave us a care package, a huge care package, full of snacks and other such food. There were also a ton of cute pictures and letters made for us. It was so heart warming, it was so cool!

Nothing else really happened this week. I've been studying the scriptures this week and I came across a scripture in Moroni chapter 9 which says:

"19 And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles."

I have come to the realization that God still performs miracles today. It is sometimes hard to believe that with all the bad stuff that goes on, but I know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that he loves us. And because he loves us, he performs miracles to let us know he is there. Sometimes, we just have to look closely to see all that God has done for us.

Love you all! Thanks for everything!

6 Months Down!! 18 to Go!

Hey mom!
Happy anniversary!! The mission office called me and said they are forwarding the package, so I should get it soon!! On Wednesday is my true 6 month mark, so I'll be burning a tie! Super excited! And Yeah, that talent show was fun! (His ward had a talent show. A ward member text me and told me).
I'm glad you had fun on your trip! It looks like you had a good time!
Yup, I got the GPS (Jason sent him his old GPS from his mission), and just in time because I am the designated driver now. That is so fun (I told Bracken Elise is trying to learn two hymns and is hoping to play at church perhaps in December)! Hopefully she'll be able to do that! Elise sounds so good on the piano! She'll kill it!

This week has been alright. I'm excited for this week. On Wednesday, we're going to drive into Eugene while my companion goes on his departing temple trip, so I'll be spending the day with another elder in Eugene for the day.
We have a baptism on Saturday, so I'm looking forward to that. It should be a fun, spiritual experience.

This week I've finished reading the Book of Mormon for the first time while out on my mission, and I would just like to say, if you haven't read it, read it. If you have read it, read it again. The power of the testimony that the book contains about Jesus Christ is amazing, life changing even. It is sad to see that the Book of Mormon falls under such heavy criticism, when if you read it, you will come to find out that this isn't a book to replace the bible, or to add onto the words that we already have, but to give another powerful testimony that Jesus Christ is the Savior and the Redeemer of the whole world.
That is my testimony, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Here are some pictures from a hike a member took us on this morning (Monday Morning):

P-Day equals Playtime on the Oregon Coast

Hey Momma!
A Niece!! Man! That's so exciting!! Hands down, I'm gunna be the favorite uncle... This is so exciting! (I told him about Jason and Nicole expecting a baby girl)
I'm glad you had a good week, and I'm sorry to hear about not loving Biology... That wasn't my favorite class to take either. (Pretty much the worst class EVER! I would rather take Stats or Math again than this class)
My week has been alright!  We had a few exchanges so it made the week go by fast.
My investigators are doing alright for the two that we have. One is a 9 year old who is on date for the 24th or so to be baptized, so I'm super excited!
Today has been fun! Our Ward Mission Leader, Bobby and his wife took us and the Reedsport elders out to some super amazing sites. We went to Thor's well, a place that Bobby calls "the hole" and up to a sweet old submarine look out. It was tons of fun!
This week should go by pretty quickly. We got zone conference on Wednesday, and that is usually 8hours long, and it is down in Coosbay, which is 50 miles away. (Those pictures make me miss Oregon a lot. I hope to visit again someday)
Anyway, love ya!

Almost forgot....
There is an amazing scripture I found this week, and it says "for with God nothing shall be impossible" (Luke 1:37)
I really love this scripture, as it was an answer to my prayers. I know with all my heart that it is through God, we can overcome all things. Whether it be physical, mental, spiritual, it is all possible to get through through God. I know that because He has helped me get through so much already.

Oregon is the Real West Coast

Hi Mom!

Sounds like you've had a great week! I'll attach some pictures of the real west coast! ;) (I sent him some pics of us watching the sunset on our west coast this weekend).

Man! Those missionaries sound like they're pretty cool getting some sweet investigators! How is the recent convert doing? Hillary that was baptized right before I came out? (our missionaries brought an investigator out who is really excited about the gospel. Also Hillary is doing great and is actually going to start at BYU-I. Bracken enjoyed getting to know her before he left and helped the missionaries here teach her a couple of lessons).

That is crazy Cameron is a senior! I guess so is Zach, Ian, Tye and all them. Hopefully they will get motivated to go on a mission. (Cameron is our home teacher and came over on Sunday).
Thanks for keeping those for me! That jacket is sick isn't it?? I can't wait to wear it when I get to Utah for school!  (He sent home a few things to keep for him and one was the Olympic trials jacket given to him when he volunteered there…we were thinking of teasing him and saying “what jacket?” It is “sick” as Bracken said).

I have been thinking about how the Lord sends blessings. I came to the conclusion that the Lord loves us and wants to bless us but we need to act. I have a firm testimony that faith and works should be one of the same. We read in the bible that "Faith without works is dead."
We come across a few people who don't understand that, and it really is simple. I'll use studying as an example. In studying for a class, how could you ask God to give you knowledge, but spent all your time not studying, how could God give you the information? On the other hand, how wise would it be to ask God to help you study effectively, ask Him to help you retain what you study and so forth, then study. I think then you'll find that you'll have the blessings you need. I know God is real. He is our Heavenly Father that loves us more than we know.

Love, Elder Snyder
