May 2017 Zone Conference

Bracken had zone conference with his Mission President. He and his companion Elder Adams won a cleanest car award. :) I'm so grateful that his Mission President keeps a blog and posts pictures when he does the conferences. What a tender mercy to be able to see Bracken and know what he's up to.

Posted on the Day of! I rock! ;)

Hi mommy and mommy Smithson!
I am definitely looking forward to those brownies!!! Sorry mom, but
sister Smithson makes the best brownies of all time.
I'm glad you've had such a fun weekend! Mine was pretty great too!

We got a message from Mormon.org saying that a lady wants to get a
Book of Mormon, so we dropped one off and taught her a lesson. We got
a text from her later saying that she wants to get baptized. Hopefully
it'll work out! She has some concerns that we're trying to work
through, but we shall see.

We also taught a lesson this morning!! It was a referral from
Springfield, and the lesson was great! We talked about the Book of
Mormon and how it can strengthen our testimony of Christ and of the
church. We set up a time to meet up again next week, so it will be
awesome.

We had interviews this week. Sad news, President told both Elder Adams
and I that we're not going to be together next transfer. We don't know
who is leaving or who is coming, but we know one of us is getting the
boot. We've gotten along really well this last transfer, and I've
personally learned a lot. All good transfers must come to an end
though...

Let's see, oh, we also talked a lot about the Holy Ghost at the
specialized training we had right before interviews. It was wonderful!
I learned a ton about how we never can convert someone, only the Holy
Ghost can truly testify of the gospel. We then talked about the
importance of being worthy vessels for the spirit. Truly inspiring and
has helped me make commitments to become more like Christ.

That about sums up my week! Oh, Elder Adams and I started to do
"flexible dieting" basically keep track of your fat, protein, carb,
and calorie intake, and keep it within your bounds. Since I'm trying
to loose a couple pounds, I've been cutting back from a 2,600 cal diet
to about a 2,100 cal diet. Since Thursday, I've dropped from 176 to
170. My goal is to get to 165 and then level off at that weight. It's
so fun to see where my calories go, and keep track of what I put in
me. Definitely going to try to do this for a while.

Anyway, I've been pondering about Agency this week, and the scripture
2 Nephi 27 comes to mind. It says

"27 Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are
given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose
liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to
choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of
the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto
himself."

We have the ability to choose between good and evil, and subsequently
between joy and misery.

Love you mom! I miss you too!
Also, those gators are cool!! I miss them!

Here are my pictures!

Oregon is so beautiful! I kind of hope Bracken gets to serve in Corvallis as that is where I was born. That would be cool if he got sent there. We'll see what comes next for him. :)

Our good friend Stephanie Smithson came into town and today was her last day. She was with me when I wrote Bracken. She said to say hi and that she would make him brownies and this was his reply. The funny thing is Steph said he used to rave about her brownies so she would make them and she thought he was just telling her that they were the best to get her to make them. Apparently, they really are the best! :) Her son Marty is Bracken's good friend and he is serving a mission in Spain.

Here are the pics from our nature walk this morning and where we saw the gators:

Hi mommy :)
First off, I think I was way to excited to talk with you, that I forgot to mention telling you Happy Mother's Day!! Thank you for what you do as my mom. It is just so amazing to me what you have done for us kids. Thank you a million.
That baby olivia sure is cute!! I can't wait to hold her!! She'll be so fun to play with!! I'm so grateful to be an uncle!!
I know!! Time will fly by so quickly. It has, and I can't wait to see what the next few months have in store!!
I'm so happy to hear that! Wouldn't it be crazy is Zachary got sent to the OEM and we were comps?? I'd freak out! 😂 I hope the paperwork goes through quickly!! (Bracken's Friend Zachary is submitting his papers to go on a mission).
I'm glad that you got to teach seminary!! Is sister Correa getting released after this year? She was a great teacher. As great as you'll be I'm sure:) how are the Correas doing?
I don't have much else to say... I hate when skype day is the day before pday, because I can't think of anything else to tell you. I did take some pictures for you though!

Pretty rickety looking bridge...maybe this should have waited til after he got back home! ;)

Mother's Day Skype!!! One more Skype call to go!!

Hearing from Bracken on Mother's Day was amazing! He came on and the first thing he said was "is Jason joining us?" He wanted to meet his new baby niece. Let me tell you it was amazing to see Bracken meet Olivia. It was precious. I loved having my family all together under one virtual roof. I love this family of mine and so grateful for them.

Hi Mom!

No, we didn't teach 100 lessons.... we taught 25 (which is a lot) but we did put a second person on date!! He came to church (his name is chuck) he came to church to find us and tell us he's going to get baptized with Dan (our other on date). Their date is September 2nd, but we're working on moving that forward. But that was such a miracle!! We were looking for someone to accept a baptism date, and Chuck told us he is going to be baptized.

I'm sorry you're pre diabetic... it's a life changer for sure. But all things are done in the wisdom of Him who knows best :) I know that everything will work out for ya :) at least you know how to start feeling better :)

Yes, 3:30 my time. We will be skyping and it will be great.  I'm so excited!! Only one more skype after Sunday! Crazy!! The mission is going by way to quickly!!

I'm glad Elise got her cast off!! That should be good! Hopefully she'll be feeling 100% soon!! Does she have to wear a sling? If so, that would stink!! But better than a cast I guess!!

My week was pretty good. We did a lot of Tracting out in the boonies, but nothing really came of it. We did have a great time on Thursday night though. A huge thunderstorm came through, so I got some pictures of that. Also, for breakfast on Wednesday we went to a members house. They have some goats and sheep there, so we were trying to get the sheep to talk to us. It was a great time!

I also want to share one of my favorite scriptures. I've shared it before, but I have definitely learned a lot from it.

It is Ether 12:27
"27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."

We all have weaknesses. They are sent from God. He gives us weakness so that we can learn.
As we come to Christ, he can turn our weaknesses into strengths. Isn't that amazing? I've come to learn that for myself. Christ really can help us over come all.

I love you!! Thanks for everything!
Elder Snyder

They crack me up! Goes to show you they are still kids. :)

Hey Momma!!

How are you doing?

This week has been a long one, so I'll just tell you about the positives.
We had a ton of lessons fall through, but we did set some stuff up for this week. We also have set a new goal for this week. Elder Adams and I want to teach 100 lessons this week. It's never been done before, but I think we can do it. We prayed with our mission president about it last night and we felt that it is possible for us to achieve this goal.

What else happened this week... we had a heck of a day on Friday. We had to go into Springfield for district meeting. I love teaching district meeting, the spirit and testimonies of these missionaries are so great! We discussed mainly about the importance of planning then we talked about how to teach youth under the age of 16. Apparently a lot of missionaries have been working with people under the age of 16, but then they fall away shortly after baptism. We discussed the need of letting the parents and the kids being taught know what baptism entails and what will be expected of the person being baptized. All in all, a great meeting.

After district meeting, we had to go get the alignment done on the car, then get it new tires. That took ages. After that, I conducted a baptismal interview. It was great! It was for a man the sisters in Springfield were teaching. The interview was amazing. The spirit was so strong, I wanted to cry at some points. It was so beautiful to see a man who has truly repented and wants to better follow Christ.

After, we went shopping, then had to run around to different elders apartments for various different reasons. Not fun!

We didn't get back to Oakridge until 8:30... it was a long long day.

Sunday was great! We talked to a few different people, so that was awesome! Weird thing happened though. When we came back from Church, our vacuum had somehow been plugged in, and turned on while we were away. Seeing how our apartment was locked, and we're the only ones with a key, it was kinda weird... so we went to ask our neighbor how long it's been turned on. She didn't know, but we sat and chatted for a few minutes and we eventually said a prayer with her. She was going through a lot, and was praying for someone to talk to. We wouldn't have gone over there if our vacuum hadn't been turned on, so we figured an Angel came to our apartment and turned on our vacuum so we could go talk to our neighbor. Isn't that funny? 😂

Well, that's it for this week. I want to let you know that I know this church, and the gospel of Jesus Christ are true. The Gospel has been given to us to help bless us as individuals and families. God does this because He loves us. We are His children. Whenever we go through hard days, or weeks, or even a bad year, He loves us. I know that to be true. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Much Love,
Elder Snyder

(Ps, I'm glad you got my letter! I was hoping it got to you!)

Trying to get a pic of the deer. The deer are shown  in the video below: Beautiful area Bracken is in.
